Tuesday Memo

Dear CCS Family,

We have held out as long as possible in making a final decision about school for the remainder of the year. Today with Gov. Kay Ivey's news conference, it has become clear that we will need to continue distance/virtual learning for the remainder of the school year. For lack of another option, it seems that everyone has gotten into a pretty good groove with this style of learning. I trust that the scaling back of busy work school-wide and non-essential subjects in lower grades has been helpful.

In light of this, please be attentive to the following announcements:

*Distance learning will continue through May 21st as scheduled for 1st-12th grades.

  • *Preschool and K-5 will continue with their distance learning as scheduled through May 15.
  • *There will be assignment drop-off/pick-up dates next Monday (4-6pm) and Tuesday (8-12 noon), May 4th and 5th. Assignments will be placed on student desks in their classrooms as they were before for your convenience.
  • *We will have an on-campus Kindergarten Graduation Parade with recognition of each student on Friday evening, May 15, at 6pm. Due to space and logistical concerns, this will probably be limited to one car per family. We believe that this will be an exciting opportunity to celebrate this special occasion in our kindergartners' lives. More details will be shared early next week.
  • *There will be NO final exams for middle/high school students. The final tests of the quarter will be somewhat cumulative of material covered 4th quarter.
  • *We are optimistically planning a Senior Graduation ceremony as originally scheduled on Friday, May 22nd, at 6pm. The location is not final. It is not certain as to whether this ceremony will be indoors or outdoors to follow social distancing guidelines as recommended. Stay tuned for further details.
  • *CCS is planning to have Summer Day Camp beginning Tuesday, May 26. SDC this year may consist more of on-campus activities and visits from special guests rather than having as many field trips. There is a consideration of starting Summer Day Camp on Monday, May 18. We have had quite a few calls and registrations. Space and numbers may be limited, so if you are interested, please print off a registration form from the school website, under Parent Resources and mail/bring it by the school office. Please respond to this email if you are interested in SDC the week of May 18.

I want to emphasize that CCS is planning to have a normal school year next year. We are looking forward to having our children back at school and experiencing the joy of seeing them learn, play and grow!

Please let us know if we can be of assistance in this challenging time. We love you and miss you!

In His care,

Tim Shelton
